Umut Sağlam – Cellist
Born in Ankara in 1998, Umut Sağlam started his violoncello studies in 2009 at the Hacettepe University State Conservatory, with Tufan Tahir Tolga.
In 2014, he began studying at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory with Dilbağ Tokay. He made his concerto debut as a soloist in 2014 under the baton of Gürer Aykal. In the same year, he performed several concerts as a soloist with MSFAU State Conservatory Symphony Orchestra. Umut Sağlam played with orchestras such as Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, Presidential Symphony Orchestra, Çukurova State Symphony Orchestra, Samsun State Opera Orchestra, l’orchestre symphonique du CRR 93 et du CRD and Bakırköy Chamber Orchestra.
In 2015, received Second Prize at the International Competition of German and Austrian Music “Magic”. In the same year, he won the First Prize at the 25th Young Musician International Competition “Città di Barletta”. In 2018, Sağlam won the first prize at the “Tremplin International Violoncello Competition” in France. In the same year, he also won the first prize in the “Gaetano Zinetti Music Competition” in Italy.
Between 2016 and 2018, Umut Sağlam has completed his studies with Claudius Popp at the Barenboim – Said Akademie in Berlin and has has completed his Bachelor studies with Frans Helmerson in 2020.
Since 2021, Umut Sağlam is continuing his Master’s degree studies at the Department of Violoncello at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler with Claudio Bohorquez. From 2019 to 2020, Sağlam has participated at the Classe d’Excellence de Violoncelle at the Fondation Louis Vuitton Paris.
In addition to his studies at the conservatory, Umut Sağlam has participated in masterclasses of artists such as; Daniel Barenboim, Steven Isserlis, Gautier Capuçon, Peter Bruns, Christoph Henkel, Alexander Hülshoff, Alexander Rudin and Gary Hoffman.
